Dubai real estate development company Emaar Properties has announced its new tower project.Having been approved by Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, it is set to become the centrepiece of Emaar’s Dubai Creek Harbour project – a six square kilometre megaproject about three times the size of Downtown Dubai. The tower’s height and name has not yet been revealed, but the developer said it would be “comparable in greatness and in height” to the Burj Khalifa and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The building has been designed by Santiago Calatrava Valls, a Spanish/Swiss architect, who has worked on the World Trade Centre Transportation Hub in New York, the Spire Tower in Chicago and the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens. The tower will be “directly linked to the central island district of Dubai Creek Harbour with a vibrant 4.5 kilometre creek boardwalk offering an array of retail, dining, leisure and entertainment choices”, Emaar said in a statement released on Saturday.Sheikh Mohammed welcomed the announcement as another landmark for the United Arab Emirates, saying the tower will prove to be a cultural and tourist icon with its unique design and engineering. The construction of the tower is due to begin in a few months time.
