The Dunstane Houses in Edinburgh is celebrating the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with a ‘Live like a Royal’ package that will take guests to the city’s key sites and offer a taste of the royal treatment. Upon arrival at the Dunstane Houses, a renovated townhouse hotel dating back to 1852, guests will be welcomed by a royal-themed champagne afternoon tea full of The Queen’s favourites, including the finest egg mayonnaise and cucumber finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, a freshly brewed pot of Earl Grey tea and glass of champagne. The following day, the hotel’s resident ‘Royal guide’ – known locally as Andy the Highlander – will whisk guests off on a day-long tour of the city’s royal hotspots clad in full Scottish plaid. These include Linlithgow Palace, where the young Scottish Queen Mary was born; Borthwick Castle, where Mary was besieged in 1567; and Holyrood Palace, our current Queen’s official residence in Scotland and where Mary spent most of her life, including marrying two of her three husbands. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia (as featured heavily in the latest season of The Crown) and Edinburgh Castle, home to the Crown Jewels, comprising the crown and the sceptre. After a day living like the Royals, guests will return to the Ba’ Bar, the Dunstane’s all-day lounge and bar home to one of the widest selections of whiskies in Edinburgh. A Scottish dinner will be served followed by a whisky tasting with the hotel’s resident connoisseur. The Dunstane Houses is a boutique hotel comprising two twin-set Victorian townhouses with a total of 35 rooms, the first of which – Dunstane House – unveiled a new look in August 2017 following a six-month renovation project. The Dunstane Houses’ ‘Live Like a Royal’ package starts from £475 per night including the aforementioned activities on a B&B basis.
