SkyTeam member carrier Vietnam Airlines has expanded its distribution deal with Sabre Corporation through the leveraging of the tech company’s passenger service system, SabreSonic.

The arrangement follows a renewed long-term content distribution agreement through the Sabre GDS.

“By integrating Sabre’s advanced solutions to an already robust platform, Vietnam Airlines will be well-equipped to address the fast changes air travel landscape,” Vietnam Airlines Executive Vice President, Trinh Hong Quang said.

Using Sabre’s technology solutions, customers will be provided with a seamless experience, from flight search, online booking, check-in, purchasing ancillaries on websites, and after-sales service. Sabre will also provide Vietnam Airlines with advanced technology that will enhance the development of mobile applications.

“By implementing this breadth and depth of Sabre innovation, Vietnam Airlines will increase their competitive advantage in the Asia Pacific market,” said Dave Shirk, President of Sabre Airline Solutions.

“With our customer-centric retailing, distribution and fulfilment capabilities, Sabre will continue to bring significant value to Vietnam Airlines as they strive to become one of the region’s largest carriers,” Shirk added.

Separately, Vietnam Airlines last week confirmed it has been in preliminary talks to potential operate charter services from Ho Chi Minh City to Port Hedland on the West Australian coast.

In a statement, the carrier said: “Vietnam Airlines clarify that Port Hedland and Vietnam Airlines deals for charter flights are still in early stages of negotiation; however, nothing has been confirmed at this time.”
