Finnish backpackers Kati Hakkinen and Atte Svisalo stumbled on beautiful Nadan Beach in Thailand’s Nakhon Siu Thamamrat province about 10 years ago. Today, they are the owners of the luxury Scandinavian-style Aava Resort & Spa on Nadan Beach.The Finnish-designed resort has 28 bungalows, a traditional Thai spa, two restaurants, a pool bar and a shopping arcade. Rooms come in four different styles, but, says Hakkinen, “the key is the beach”.At nine kilometres long, Nadan Beach fronts the waters that are home to the rare pink dolphins for which Khanom district is famous.Rooms include bungalows with private gardens, poolside villas with direct access to the infinity pool and sea views, and family villas with sun terraces and private Jacuzzis, all in a sleek, contemporary design.Aava Spa runs wellness and fitness activities including Muay Thai (Thai boxing) and yoga, and has a range of treatments from Thai and Swedish massage to therapeutic pampering packages.Wedding planners can arrange Western or Buddhist ceremonies or blessings, and all aspects of the event from the catering to entertainment. Exclusive access to the entire resort is possible for medium-sized wedding parties.The resort is two hours from Krabi airport. The best time to visit is March to October.
