Oman Air adding Athens to network

Oman Air will commence new daily services between Muscat and Athens, effective June 2019, operated by the carrier’s new state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.The route will bypass Oman Air’s current option to the capital of Greece which operates via Abu Dhabi under a codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways, and will reduce travel time by a minimum of 2.5 hours.“Oman has strong bilateral relations with Greece and the introduction of this new flight will certainly help strengthen relations even further. The new route will also enable Oman Air’s guests to explore a remarkable city with an ancient civilisation, steeped in history and amazing landscapes,” Oman Air Chief Executive Officer Eng. Abdul Aziz Al Raisi said.Flights to Athens on WY 191 will depart Muscat at 14:45 and reach Athens at 19:50 hrs. The return flight will depart Athens at 00:20 and arrive in Muscat at 06:35 hrs. The flight duration is approximately five hours.Oman Air is currently undergoing an exciting fleet and network expansion program, which will see the airline operate up to 70 aircraft to around 60 destinations by 2022.Oman Air’s fleet consists of four Boeing 787-8, four 787-9 Dreamliners, six Airbus 330-300s, four Airbus 330-200s, five Boeing 737-900s, 21 Boeing 737-800s, four Embraer 175s and three 737 MAX. By the end of 2018, Oman Air will have taken delivery of five new MAX aircraft and three 787-9s bringing their total fleet size to 51 aircraft.
