Jim Carreker, Managing Director of The Louise Barossa Valley brought his team to Sydney to announce the property’s award-winning restaurant, Appellation’s, new Executive Chef and Head Chef. The husband and wife team, Daniel and Emily Murphy, are Barossa-born and raised and have an intense passion for locally sourced, organic foods and wines, which is reflected in the restaurant’s menu and wine lists. The lunch was toted as ‘a taste of Appellation’, with the boutique lodge bringing its chef team, foods and wines to The Private Kitchen in Sydney’s Chippendale for an intimate media lunch. The four-course meal started with a selection of canapés including Gazander oysters, king prawns served with cured egg in a cos heart and ham hock with halloumi and potato.LATTE and other guests mingled with the property’s team, which also included GM Kylie Mansfield and Emma Welling, Director of Sales and Marketing, over the seated portion of the meal with a veal, mushroom, mizuna and yellow bean entrée followed by duck served with abalone, spinach and radish with a piping hot broth.Appellation’s sommelier Patrick Burgun was also present and served guests Seppeltsfield Road Distillers gin and tonic and a selection of local South Australian wines.Emily Murphy AppellationThe affair finished with Emily’s citrus, olive oil, meringue and whey dessert creation, which left all guests wondering when we’ll have a chance to visit the South Australian property. The Louise has been owned by Jim and Helen Carreker since January 2005, previously know as Peppers Hermitage and The Hermitage at Maranang. The couple spent over 10 years researching and selecting the Barossa Valley property. The Louise is a member of Relais & Châteaux and Luxury Lodges of Australia.
