South Australian wholesaler Venture Far (was Venture Holidays) has just announced the appointment of liquidators and has ceased operations. In a statement, the company said:“Venture Far regrets to advise that after 39 years of operation we have appointed Liquidators and placed the company into liquidation. The costs and challenges of being a boutique wholesaler, operating in a high-price-drive, low-margin industry have proven to be too large to overcome.“Venture Far identified the need to adapt to the changing travel landscape and underwent major changes in 2017 including a total rebrand. While we saw improvements for these changes, it has proven not to be enough.“For Agent queries regarding your booking, please contact 1300 303 343 and select option 1. The Liquidators have maintained some reservations staff to assist with your enquiries. Sales, Marketing and Product areas have ceased immediately.”The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has responded, taking action to terminate the ATAS travel accredited status of The Trustee for Venture Holidays SA Unit Trust trading as Venture Far.“The circumstances of the bookings are yet to be known, however, any travel agents who have bookings with Venture Far and are participants in the AFTA Chargeback Scheme (ACS) may be able to make a claim subject to participation commencement,” AFTA said in a statement.Travel agents and consumers impacted are advised to invoke a chargeback if payments were made by credit card.“They should also contact local Police to commence criminal charges against the principles, where payments and deposits had been paid for future travel that will now not be able to be taken,” AFTA said.
