Bamboo Airways tests the water down under

The maiden service into Australia by Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways touched down in Melbourne last Saturday heralding the carrier’s future vision for scheduled flights to the Victorian capital.Flight QH9088, operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Noi Bai International Airport, Hanoi arrived with crew only for a repatriation flight (QH9089) the same day which would see Bamboo Airways provide uplift for 290 Vietnamese passengers returning to Hanoi via Van Don International Airport (Ha Long Airport).Bamboo Airways used the rescue service to test the water for flights to Australia, with the airline expecting to return to Melbourne on a more frequent basis from late Q1 or early Q2 2021.Melbourne Airport said it is working closely with the airline to finalise its network expansion into Australia, post COVID-19, providing a new non-stop route between Vietnam and Melbourne. In June the airline indicated that the route would operate via Brisbane.“Australia is one of the most important source markets of Vietnam… aiming to develop a regular direct route into operation in 2021,” Bamboo Airways Deputy General Director, Nguyen Ngoc Trong said.Bamboo Airways offers three classes of travel: Bamboo Eco (Economy), Bamboo Plus (Premium Economy) and Bamboo Business. At the pointy end, the Dreamliner is kitted out with 26 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.The carrier has the vision to become “the first five-star airline in Vietnam having first-class compartment towards to the leading position in Asian aviation in the upcoming journey,” according to Bamboo Airways’ website.
