Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has relaunched MS EUROPA following a two-week dry dock at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. During the fortnight, the ultra-luxury vessel had 56 suites modernised, and used the period to also upgrade the floor of the Europa Restaurant and refresh the rooftop swimming pool.At this year’s shipyard, the main focus was on technical work. The Azipod drive was regularly serviced and a new underwater coat of paint was applied.“The Berlitz Cruise Guide consistently rates the EUROPA as the ‘best cruise ship in the world*’ out. In order to continue to meet this requirement, we regularly invest in our heart ship. The EUROPA is constantly being maintained and modernised,” said Julian Pfitzner, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

The new underwater coat of paint increases the eco-efficiency of the EUROPA and has a positive effect on the flow characteristics of the ship. This reduces fuel consumption by up to 10%, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises says.EUROPA was last at the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg in October 2019. At that time, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises established a new culinary offer on board: the well-being concept EUROPA Refresh, which is geared towards holistic and mindfulness. It includes nutrition workshops in collaboration with Dr. Anne Fleck. The restaurants ‘The Globe by Kevin Fehling’ and ‘Pearls’ also stand for fundamental conceptual changes.
A total of 56 suites in categories 6 and 7 were enhanced during this latest dry dock. Walls with stylish gray lines and light-coloured carpets adorn the living areas, while the white wood finish of the furniture and an inviting sofa set new accents. The floor in the Europa Restaurant has been completely relaid and sealed.Golfers will also benefit from a new simulator, which Hapag-Lloyd Cruises promises to be “the best sporting and golfing experience in the industry today”.*according to the Berlitz Cruise Guide 2020Lead image: Light carpets adorn the living areas, the white wood look of the furniture and an inviting sofa set new accents © Hapag-Lloyd Cruises
