Akorn DMC and Sanctuary Retreats, part of A&K Travel Group, has appointed Fiona Cogar as Sales Director, Australia & New Zealand. In her role, Cogar will support the global Sanctuary Retreats portfolio and over thirty worldwide Akorn destinations.Cogar has more than 20 years of travel industry experience working with the Australia & New Zealand markets, including over 12 years’ experience managing DMC sales for Emirates/dnata based in Dubai, and as Leisure Sales Manager in Australia for Kerzner.Prior to that, she previously also spent several years with Flight Centre in marketing and campaign management roles for Infinity Holidays and Escape Travel brands, along with positions with Japan Airlines, STA Travel and American Express Travel Services.

In relation to Cogar’s appointment, Pieter van der Schee, Senior VP Sales at Akorn & Global Director Sales and Marketing at Sanctuary Retreats, said: “As desire for premium and luxury tour operators is returning fast, I am pleased that Fiona has joined us at this pivotal time.“Among our over 30 worldwide Akorn destinations, we are seeing particularly strong interest from Australians travelling to Southeast Asia, Egypt, Africa and Europe, while our luxury Sanctuary camps and lodges in Africa, and Nile cruises in Egypt, are in great demand too.“We welcome Fiona and know she’ll be a powerful addition to the team,” van der Schee added.Cogar began in the role in August 2022.
