AmaWaterways will add a second double-width ship to its fleet, Kristin Karst, Executive Vice President and Co-Founder of the river cruise operator has said. The company introduced its first extra-wide vessel, AmaMagna, in mid-2019. The 196-passenger ship is 72 feet (22 metres) wide compared to European fleet-mates which are 38 feet (11.5 metres) wide. While significantly larger in size, AmaMagna only has around 20% more guests than smaller sister-ships.The new wider vessel is earmarked to launch in 2027.

AmaMagna features four restaurants, a cinema, a wellness studio, a heated pool, whirlpool and sky bar on the Sun Deck, and operates exclusively on the Danube River. It is likely the sister-ship will follow suit.Speaking at the Travel Leaders Network Edge conference in Washington DC, Karst said the next ‘big ship’ will feature a number of refinements, but did not go into detail at this stage.A few weeks ago, AmaWaterways announced it would add another two new ships to its fleet in 2026 AmaSofia on the Danube and Rhine, and AmaDara on the Mekong.
