Wilderness has confirmed its next East African property, Wilderness Mara, will open in the Maasai Mara in June 2026, a transformation of Little Governors’ Camp.Situated at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment, the camp will offer prime access to the iconic Mara Triangle and both sides of the Mara River. The strategic setting allows for more exclusive and diverse game-viewing opportunities with fewer crowds.“Formerly the legendary Little Governors’ Camp, the completely rebuilt Wilderness Mara carries forward a legacy of pioneering safari,” said Hein Prinsloo, Wilderness Kenya Chief Executive Officer.“For over 50 years, Governors’ set the standard for authenticity, conservation and community. Now, Wilderness is proud to honour and evolve that heritage – blending classic East African charm with elevated, low-impact luxury.”

With freestanding bathtubs, outdoor showers and elevated private decks, all suites are designed to draw guests closer to the surrounding wilderness. The camp is crafted specifically for couples and solo travellers seeking solitude and connection to nature, with no family units onsite.Amenities will include a spa, gym and in-camp photographic studio that allows guests to “relive and retell the day’s wildest moments.” Daily game drives will be complemented by hot air balloon safaris provided by Governors’ Balloon Safaris and cultural visits to local Maasai manyattas.
