A $250 million expansion of the Comiskey Group‘s Sandstone Point Hotel and Holiday Resort, aims to deliver the Moreton Bay region’s first greenfield five-star hotel. The development will include 202 rooms across two ten-storey towers, with one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites offering sweeping views of the Pumicestone Passage. According to the group, the new accommodation is “thoughtfully designed with coastal elegance,” and aims to attract a new calibre of visitors to the region.Confirming discussions are underway with several global brands around strategic partnerships to strengthen the project’s international appeal, Director Rob Comiskey described the project as a “natural evolution” for the popular destination.“My family and I have owned the land since 2011, and from day one, we saw it as a truly special part of Moreton Bay — perfectly positioned opposite Bribie Island,” he said. “Over time, demand has only grown. To meet that and take the experience to the next level, we’re expanding and elevating our offering by delivering the first five-star accommodation in Moreton Bay.”

Beyond accommodation, the broader masterplan includes a vibrant retail and entertainment precinct featuring new dining options, a bowling alley and a dedicated Tourism Information Centre. Other highlights include an infinity pool, a wellness centre, family-friendly pools, a Mediterranean restaurant and an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar and live DJ sets.To support its growing popularity as an event destination, the expansion includes enhanced concert infrastructure, increased parking, and a new bus terminal. The development is expected to create 995 jobs and attract more than 117,000 visitor nights annually, injecting an estimated $143.3 million into the local economy each year.Natassia Wheeler, CEO of Queensland Tourism Industry Council, called the project “a game-changing investment” and highlighted its role in addressing hotel shortages ahead of Brisbane 2032. “This development brings much-needed capacity, creates jobs, and enhances the tourism experience — which we know has a powerful ripple effect across the broader economy,” she said.
