The world’s finest ultra-luxury cruise line, Seabourn, has completed a highly successful first season of the new Ventures by Seabourn programme in the Amazon on two extraordinary Seabourn Quest voyages.During Seabourn Quest’s South America itineraries in February and March, guests enjoyed exclusive opportunities to experience the natural wonders found along one of the world’s largest rivers as part of the cruise line’s inaugural Ventures on the Amazon programme. The series of informative and educational shore excursions guided by knowledgeable and experienced expedition teams saw guests participate in Zodiac and kayak tours that exposed them to incredible wildlife native to the region including exotic birds, sloths, howler monkeys, pink river dolphins and even an anaconda. With Seabourn’s ongoing focus on enrichment, guests exploring the Amazon on Seabourn Quest also enjoyed a strong onboard academic program, with more than a dozen Seabourn Conversations from the ship’s impressive expedition team including Dr. Hans-Petef Reinthaler, whose lecture topics included the geological history of South America and the continent’s complex and endangered rainforest in the Amazon Basin; Juan José ‘JJ’ Apestegui, an ornithologist and naturalist who focused on the more than 1500 bird species found in the Amazon; and Kara Weller, an Alaska native with a background in research who offered lectures on a range of biological topics including an in-depth look at whales, dolphins and porpoises found along the coast of Brazil, as well as the most elusive species of the region.Ventures by Seabourn began in Northern Europe in 2015 as an informative and educational way for guests to enhance their cruise with optional shore excursions guided by expedition teams of scientists, scholars and naturalists. Available in select ports, the program leads guests through picturesque waterways and fjords, secluded inlets and to scenic islands via Zodiac boats or paddling in double sea kayaks launched from the unique fold-out water sports marina onboard all Seabourn vessels. The program has also taken guests to remote destinations such as Antarctica and will expand to include Alaska in 2017.Seabourn’s intimate ships offer key elements that set Seabourn apart: spacious, thoughtfully appointed suites, many with verandas; superb dining in a choice of venues; open bars throughout the ship; fine wines poured at lunch and dinner; award-winning personalised service and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home on board.
