The completion of work on the iconic Victorian building at the historic Hotel del Coronado, on San Diego’s Coronado Island, marks the final phase in Blackstone Real Estate’s more than US$550 million transformation of the legendary resort.“From its earliest days, Hotel del Coronado has been a pioneer, continuously redefining the resort experience,” said JP Oliver, Managing Director of Hotel del Coronado. “After this transformative journey, we are proud to set a new benchmark for resort excellence and continue exceeding expectations for a new era of guests and visitors.”The restoration included a full renovation of the hotel’s front porch, lobby, and entry experience. All Victorian guestrooms were updated, along with the garden courtyard and historic event spaces such as the Crown Room.The hotel has also debuted two new dining concepts. Veranda, inspired by the hotel’s original wraparound veranda, offers dishes like grilled California Artichokes and a modern French Dip, rooted in locally sourced ingredients.

Meanwhile, Nobu Del Coronado presents Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature fusion cuisine alongside Southern California-inspired dishes such as Lobster Truffle Tempura and Tai Sweet Shiso.Design collaborators prioritised historical accuracy. Among the contributors were Wimberly Interiors with WATG, GSB Inc., Burton Studios, and David Marshall of Heritage Architecture & Planning.The restored Victorian guest rooms now feature brighter floral textiles, woven vinyl raffia headboards, and checkerboard marble flooring. Each room has its own look and feel.“Blackstone has been dedicated to preserving Hotel del Coronado’s iconic status as a National Historic Landmark while ensuring it remains a timeless destination for future generations,” said Rob Harper, Head of Asset Management Americas at Blackstone Real Estate. “We are so proud of the thoughtful collaboration that brought this more than $550 million project to fruition.”
