Launch of Belmond’s The Britannic Explorer marks historic first

Launching on 21 July 2025, The Britannic Explorer, A Belmond Train will make history as England and Wales’ first luxury sleeper train.Speaking to media at International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) Asia Pacific in Singapore this week, Belmond Divisional Director of Sales, Trains and Cruises Kate Dicks described the experience that lies in store.“This is really going to take guests on a unique journey through different parts of the kingdom that showcase eccentric individuals that give play to Britain’s unique culture and hospitality,” she said.The train offers three distinct itineraries through Cornwall, the Lake District, and Wales – with each journey reflecting its region’s unique identity.

“Cornwall will play very much on the art of the region, with visits to the private Hepworth Museum, which will take exclusively our guests,” Dicks explained. “Wales will focus on outdoor pursuits and being immersed in the beautiful nature of the Snowdonia National Park with wet weather options.“And lastly, we’ll also be taking our guests to the Lake District, which again will focus on the beauty of those landscapes, the literary heritage of the region too.”The Britannic Explorer aims to become a symbol of modern British identity by blending history, style, and personality into an “unexpected and unconventional” luxury rail experience.London-based Albion Nord, alongside Luke Edward Hall, Mel Campion and Olly Fathers designed the train’s eight carriages, which combine “British wit and charm” with bold fabrics, layered textures, and hand-selected antiques.The interiors are inspired by the “serene, organic beauty” of the British countryside, using natural materials such as wood, stone, and wool alongside earthy tones.The train’s 18 cabins, including three Grand Suites and 15 Suites, are crafted to make the journey as extraordinary as the destination. Guests can relax in private cabins, be pampered in the onboard spa created with Wildsmith, or enjoy Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan’s farm-to-fork dining experience.General Manager Hendrik Huebner called the launch a pivotal moment that “embodies the true spirit of adventure.”Meanwhile, Camilla Clarke, Creative Director at Albion Nord, said: “Designing The Britannic Explorer has been an extraordinary opportunity to tell a new story of British luxury – one rooted in craft, landscape and character.”Departing from London Victoria, the train’s three-night journeys start from £11,000, including excursions, meals, and drinks.
