On Monday 23 April, at the Hilton Sydney, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) invited selected media, including LATTE, and industry agents to a three-course dinner followed by nearly two hours worth of intensive B2B meetings between Australian and Sri Lankan travel industry partners, and nine lucky guests even won a range of fully hosted fact finding trips to Sri LankaAddressing the delegation, which also included representatives from 26 Sri Lankan based tourism suppliers, SLTPB’s Director of Marketing, Mrs Madubhani Perera said that Australia is currently the seventh most important nation for tourism arrivals into Sri Lanka and is on a strong growth curve of 9 percent last year, with a target of 70,000 arrivals offered for 2016.The roadshow especially highlighted the island’s amazing wildlife viewing opportunities – the second best in the world after Africa and boasting a 60 to 70 per cent chance of seeing a leopard on a tour. The roadshows in Australia are just one of the strategies that SLTPB is adopting in the coming years to increase tourist numbers in Australia, which is emerging as a very significant market. On the way out, guests were farewelled with a Sri Lankan goodie bag, containing a map and brochures displaying the country’s many delights: wildlife, pristine beaches, heritage, thrills and colourful festivals.
