Marriott International has highlighted a transformative year of progress in sustainability and community impact, with early achievement of its global volunteering goal one of its most significant milestones. This, and other major strides, were revealed in the company’s newly released 2025 Serve 360 Report. Associates across the company contributed more than 15.6 million hours of community service between 2016 and 2024—surpassing the original target by over 600,000 hours and a full year ahead of schedule.“In 2024, associates volunteered over 3.4 million hours to support the communities where we do business,” said Marriott International President and CEO Anthony G. Capuano. “I couldn’t be prouder of our associates’ efforts.”Marriott’s approach is firmly rooted in its founding values, which continue to define the company nearly a century later. “For nearly a century, Marriott has been defined by our founding values that make us who we are – Put People First, Pursue Excellence, Embrace Change, Act With Integrity, and Serve Our World,” Capuano said. These values also guide Marriott’s sustainability and social impact platform, Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction.
Environmental stewardship was another major focus in 2024. Over 6,000 biodiversity and ecosystem protection activities were led by associates, hotels and business councils, reinforcing Marriott’s commitment to local communities and nature. The company reported that 15% of its Marriott Bonvoy portfolio hotels achieved certification to recognised sustainability standards, demonstrating elevated environmental performance. In waste reduction, Marriott made significant progress by reducing waste to landfill intensity by 23% and food waste intensity by 29% compared to its 2019 baseline.Marriott also continues to lead in human trafficking awareness, having trained more than 1.4 million associates since 2016, reflecting its commitment to act with integrity.Meanwhile, charitable giving reached nearly $52 million in 2024, split between in-kind support and cash contributions, while the Marriott Disaster Relief Fund provided over $2.6 million to support associates and humanitarian groups affected by crises worldwide.“As we continue to grow, we remain focused on meeting the evolving needs of associates, guests, hotel owners, and the communities where we live, work, and visit, striving to be a force for good in the world,” Capuano added.
