“Today’s travellers are seeking transformative experiences that blend luxury and learning. Rivers have always been the arteries of civilisation – the channels where history unfolded.”

The 2027 program includes four distinct itineraries across Europe and Southeast Asia, with bookings now open. Each cruise will be accompanied by expert historians offering exclusive seminars and guided excursions to historically significant sites.

“We’re excited to partner with Mat McLachlan and his great team at Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours to bring these extraordinary historical journeys to life,” AmaWaterways Managing Director AU/NZ Steve Richards said.

The Anzac Day 2027 River Cruise will explore Holland and Belgium during tulip season, visiting sites such as the Menin Gate, WWI trenches and Tyne Cot Cemetery.

Meanwhile, the Mat McLachlan 2027 Signature Cruise will be personally hosted by McLachlan, sailing round-trip from Amsterdam to explore the battles of Waterloo, WWI and WWII. The tour will mark key anniversaries including the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Menin Road and the 83rd anniversary of Operation Market Garden.

Visits to the key sites where the Allied forces launched their assault on Nazi-occupied Europe will be the highlights of the D-Day Anniversary Cruise which will sail round-trip from Paris and focus on the Normandy landings. Guests will explore the D-Day beaches on June 5 and 6.

Exploring ancient civilizations and modern conflicts, the Riches of the Mekong and Vietnam War Cruise will sail through Cambodia and Vietnam. A 5-day land extension includes visits to Cu Chi Tunnels, Long Tan, and concludes with a Vietnam Veterans Day commemoration at the Long Tan Cross.
