Cempedak Island (pronounced chem-pe-dak), located 91 kilometres off the coast of Singapore in Indonesia’s Riau Archipelago, is a 17-hectare private island with sustainability at the forefront of its design.

Approaching by private speed boat towards Cempedak, the island’s 20 handcrafted bamboo Beach and Seaview villas – all with plunge pools – will be visible through the jungle foliage. This retreat offers space and time to truly disconnect, with a maximum of 40 guests, adults-only policy, no televisions and an island that has been slowly developed over several years to preserve the natural habitat and wildlife, including the endangered pangolin.

Conservation and consideration of environmental issues have been a priority in the development of Cempedak. The use of locally sourced sustainable materials and a devotion to maintaining the natural beauty of the island ensures Cempedak Island will be an ecologically sound destination with preservation at its heart. The environmental strategy extends beyond the island to the employment and training of local staff. As a result, Cempedak is not only an important contributor to the local community, but a project that local people feel proud and privileged to be part of.
