Chin Chin’s popular Sydney restaurant was the venue of choice for Cathay Pacific’s 2018 update, presented by the General Manager of Southwest Pacific, Rakesh Raicar. Rakesh has been in the role for five months, moving to Australia from South Africa after a 20-year career with Cathay Pacific that started at Mumbai Airport. After expanding into new destinations in 2017 (Tel Aviv, Barcelona and a seasonal flight to Christchurch), Cathay Pacific is looking further afield in 2018. The new route from Hong Kong to Washington, DC’s Dulles International Airport will be the airline’s longest at 7085 nautical miles when it launches in September 2018 and will be operated by the new A350-1000. Other new destinations include Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin and Nanning. In 2017, Cathay Pacific embarked on a program of transformation that will likely continue through 2019 and will invest in areas that matter most to the airline’s customers. Among these changes will be increased capacity throughout the Southwest Pacific region, including the planned introduction of the A350-1000 to the Hong Kong–Sydney route later this year. This will be accompanied by a roll-out of A350-900, A350-1000 or 777-300ER aircraft to replace the A330s still servicing the four main cities of the Southwest Pacific region.Pictured: A350-900
