Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia has joined forces with Smartraveller to help educate travel agents about the important travel advice available to them at their fingertips. As the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) official travel advisory portal, Smartraveller is a one-stop-shop for all travellers to access information ahead of travel to more than 170 destinations. Smartraveller offers the latest advice on everything from security issues and health concerns to natural disasters and visa requirements.Smartraveller and CLIA have jointly developed a new e-learning module that helps CLIA travel agents learn how to get the most out of the tools, resources and advice available. The module covers information on passports, insurance and healthcare while on a cruise, understanding travel advisories and what the different levels of travel advice really mean, what to do when things go wrong and how DFAT can help.CLIA Australasia and Asia Managing Director Joel Katz said it was essential for travel agents to know how to access and understand official travel advice as their clients cruise to all corners of the globe.“With cruises traversing every continent and reaching every corner of the world, this partnership with Smartraveller comes at a crucial time.“On any given day there can be an issue affecting any country and it’s absolutely vital that travel agents provide their clients with timely, accurate and relevant advice before they embark on a cruise anywhere in the world.“Knowing how to navigate Smartraveller and understanding what information is available will ensure that agents are in the best position to advise their clients on how best to prepare for their trip,” Mr Katz said.CLIA member agents can access the Smartraveller module via CLIA’s Learning Academy. For more information on CLIA accreditation and training visit www.cruising.org.au and for travel advice go to www.smartraveller.gov.au.
