The beating heart of social life and a favourite hobby of the Romans, a place entirely dedicated to the well-being of the person and the at the same time powerful propaganda tool for politicians: in Ancient Rome the spa complexes weren’t just a place for fun. The immense baths of Diocletian, dating back to the fourth century AD are probably the best preserved and the largest ever built in Rome. Today they house part of the National Roman Museum and boast more than 400 works among statues, reliefs, altars and sarcophagi.
