A decree that would have banned larger cruise ships from calling at Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer on the French Riviera has been overturned.

With Japan experiencing a significant boom in tourism following the COVID-19 pandemic, Japan National Tourism Office (JNTO) has downplayed concerns around overtourism, insisting it is “not an issue” in the vast majority of the country.

French Riviera town Villefranche-sur-mer will also ban larger cruise ships, under the same decree that will see neighbouring Nice turn away ships carrying more than 900-guests.
