After close to four decades in the role, Richard Fain will step down as Chair of Royal Caribbean Group in Q4 2025, with President and CEO Jason Liberty elected to take it on in his stead.

The launch of Celebrity River Cruises is a strategic move by Royal Caribbean Group (RCG) to keep customers within its expansive ecosystem while elevating the river cruise experience, according to President and CEO Jason Liberty.

Celebrity Cruises will make a play at the booming river cruise market, unveiling plans to launch premium river cruise holidays in Europe beginning in 2027. The new brand, Celebrity River Cruises, will comprise 180-passenger “transformative ships” and inherit the “elevated design and sophistication of the Edge Series ocean ships”.

Construction commenced for Celebrity Cruises’® next ship, Celebrity Xcel® yesterday [Thursday 13 June 2024] with the keel laying ceremony at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

Royal Caribbean Group has announced the shock departure of Barbara Muckermann from the group after 14 years with Silversea, the past 14 months as the ultra-luxury cruise line’s President. Muckermann’s departure to “pursue other opportunities” is effective immediately.

Silversea officially named Silver Nova® during a ceremony in Fort Lauderdale on 4 January, honouring maritime traditions to welcome the ‘Ship of Light’ to its fleet. Billed by Silversea as the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury ship ever built, the 728-guest Silver Nova strengthens Royal Caribbean Group’s commitment to delivering the world’s best vacations, responsibly.

Royal Caribbean Group and Silversea Cruises executives enjoyed a sneak preview of Silver Nova this week in Eemshaven, Netherlands. Billed as “the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury cruise ship ever built”, the dignitaries were given an extensive tour of the ship ahead of her inaugural sailing on 14 August 2023.

Silversea Cruises has confirmed current Chief Commercial Officer, Barbara Muckermann, will succeed current President and CEO Roberto Martinoli, effective 1 January 2023.

Silversea is expanding its expedition fleet with the ultra-luxury cruise line to begin operating Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Endeavor later this year. The move was widely expected after Silversea had registered the name Silver Endeavour in the US a few weeks ago.
