Baillie Lodges has launched a new initiative designed to offer mateship and connection to its regional community partners.

After almost four years in the planning, design and construction, Baillie Lodges flagship property Southern Ocean Lodge has today reopened on the south coast of South Australia’s Kangaroo Island. Southern Ocean Lodge’s original architect Max Pritchard and his team have led the recreation of the property and have included all the features guests loved best along with some considered extras, set for a new era of travel on Kangaroo Island.

Baillie Lodges has confirmed the highly-anticipated reopening of Southern Ocean Lodge on 6 December 2023. The all-new ultra-luxury resort will debut just inside four years since it was leveled by bushfires in January 2020.

Baillie Lodges has flagged a potential opening of the reincarnated Southern Ocean Lodge before the end of 2023. As overseas demand for the luxury hospitality group’s Australia portfolio continues to grow from strength to strength, Chief Operating Officer Craig Bradbery has highlighted a number of key trends and challenges still facing Baillie Lodges, one year after the country’s international borders reopened to tourism following the pandemic.

The rebuild of Baillie Lodges’ Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, South Australia commenced on Friday [18 February 2022], with an official sod-turning ceremony. The original flagship property of the Baillie Lodges’ stable was destroyed by bushfires in January 2020.

A soil turning ceremony next week at the site of the former Southern Ocean Lodge will signify the official start of rebuilding the next iteration of one of Australia’s most acclaimed resorts.

Baillie Lodges has received a “substantial investment” from an affiliate of KSL Capital Partners, heralding a new chapter in Baillie Lodges’ quest to deliver “Australia’s finest collection of luxury lodges,” the company has announced. Founders James and Hayley Baillie will lead the new venture and continue to guide the Baillie Lodges’ commitment to delivering wild, experiential luxury.
