Hurtigruten Norway has unveiled plans for its first zero-emission electric and wind-powered ships, featuring retractable sails, slated to enter service in 2030. The new ship will be 135 meters long, and comprise 270 cabins, with a capacity of 500 guests and 99 crew.

Shipbuilder Fincantieri has inked a contract to build a new ultra-luxury cruise ship for an unspecified customer.

Paul Gauguin Cruises has shelved plans to add new ships to the fleet of the French Polynesian-based cruise line. Owner PONANT, inked a Memorandum of Understanding with Fincantieri’s Vard shipyard for the fleet expansion nearly two years ago to the day. The MOU included two firm orders and one option.

Ponant has taken delivery of Le Commandant Charcot, the first hybrid electric polar expedition ship powered by Liquified Natural Gas, at a ceremony at the VARD shipyard in Norway.

Fincantieri’s subsidiary VARD, one of the major global designers and shipbuilders of specialised vessels, has delivered HANSEATIC spirit, the third ship in a new series of luxury expedition cruise vessels to Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

The VARD shipyard has won the contract to construct the world’s first residential “yacht liner”, named Somnio.
